We believe that obtaining a quality education is the cornerstone for improving children's lives and fostering sustainable development. As part of this mission, we run the Phronesis Early Childhood Development Centre, After Care, and Junior School, based in the Kya Sand Informal/Rural Settlement in Johannesburg North, South Africa. Our primary goal is to provide access to education for as many children as possible, as we firmly believe education is the key to eradicating poverty and building thriving communities. Educated children represent the hope and future of our nation. Our Current Need For the year 2025, we have 150 children registered, ready to begin school on 13 January. Our grades range from Grade R to Grade 7, and we have expanded to include three new classrooms. However, we are in urgent need of school furniture: The current furniture is dilapidated and unsafe for children. This poses a significant challenge as we work to create a safe and conducive learning environment. Providing adequate classroom desks will ensure that children from our community can receive a quality education close to home, without the need to travel long distances to the nearest decent school. Budget We aim to raise funds to purchase 50 double desks, each accommodating two chairs per desk, which will serve 100 students. The budget also includes transportation costs to deliver the furniture to the school from the supplier. This investment will create a safer and more conducive learning environment for the children while supporting the continued development of our education center.
