COMPUTER SCIENCE AND FUNDAMENTALS PROGRAM We provide children with early training in essential computer skills, focusing on both computer science and fundamental computer knowledge. Our program is designed to equip young learners with the proper techniques and foundational skills necessary to excel in the digital age. By mastering these basics, children gain a significant head start, enabling them to become proficient in using technology effectively. Computers play an integral role in our daily lives, and it is now more important than ever to ensure that every child understands computer basics, how computers work, and how technology can positively impact their lives. Our comprehensive training program runs annually for 10 months—from February to November—with a celebratory graduation ceremony held during the first week of December. The program is structured into three key phases to cater to different age groups and learning needs: • Foundation Phase • Elementary Phase • Senior Phase These phases cover students from Grades R to 7, ensuring tailored learning experiences appropriate to their developmental stages. Computer Basics • What a Computer Looks like, • Computer Ports • Different Types of Computers Computer Components • Hardware • Operating Systems • Software or Applications • Networking Computer Hardware • Memory (RAM) • Processing (CPU) • Hard Disk • Motherboard • Other Parts of a Computer Computer Functionality and Safety • Information Transmission (0 and 1) • Computer Comparison with Human Body • How Internet Works • How to buy a computer • How to use internet safety Learning Outcomes By the end of this course, children will: • Be familiar with computer parts, functions, and basic terminology. • Understand how to operate a computer and navigate an operating system. • Gain foundational knowledge of software, hardware, and networking. • Know basic internet usage and essential online safety practices. • Build confidence in using technology for both learning and play. Teaching Methods • Hands-On Practice: Children will get to handle computers and explore components. • Interactive Activities: Engaging games, puzzles, and activities to reinforce concepts. • Visual Aids and Analogies: Using visuals and real-world analogies to simplify technical concepts. • Collaborative Learning: Encouraging teamwork and group activities for peer-to-peer learning. Budget Overview We train 100 children annually, and the cost of training each child is R240 per month over a period of 10 months. This results in a total annual budget of R240,000, which covers the direct costs associated with facilitating the project. Our budget ensures that every child receives high-quality training and resources throughout the year, enabling them to develop essential computer skills for their future.
