More about GRIP - The Greater Rape Intervention Project
We are a Mpumalanga based NPO dedicated to fighting Gender Based Violence (GBV) and advocating for the rights of GBV Survivors. In order to ensure that we offer a fully comprehensive service to the community (which we have termed our GRIP circle of care), GRIP has established care rooms at various Police Stations, Hospitals and Courts across Mpumalanga where we have experienced First Responders and qualified Social Workers available to assist victims of Gender Based Violence and support them on their journey to becoming strong and healed Survivors. In addition to our care rooms, GRIP also runs two fully fledged shelters where vulnerable women and children can stay for up to 6 months. Here, Survivors have access to our Social and Social Auxiliary Workers on a 24h basis. We provide everyone with nutritious, healthy meals, assist with child care, CV creation and job applications. We have various skills development programmes such as beading, sewing, baking and small scale vegetable farming to try and empower our residents to become more self-sufficient. Further, we run tested prevention programmes in the community such as NO MEANS NO trying to educate adolescent young people and end the cycle of violence our country is experiencing. GRIP employs over 80 staff, is a registered and compliant NPO with level 1 B-BBEE status. Through our unique GRIP circle of care model, we are able to provide long term support to ensure that our Survivors are able to overcome any trauma endured
