Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

Our project Mama Themba is working in partnership with the community • We connect with new mothers on a direct and personal level by regularly visiting the maternity wards and welcoming their new babies. • Our volunteers personally deliver a care bag containing clothing, blankets and hygiene products to ensure that every new baby and their mother is cared for. • We support those women whose babies have to stay in the hospital for longer periods by providing loving support. • We host breastfeeding support groups which advise new mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as covering most ante- and post-natal topics. • We have a breastfeeding peer counsellor who covers 4 clinics in her efforts to educate mothers

Helpful tips

Stay safe

  1. 1Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
  2. 2When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
  3. 3Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
  4. 4Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
  5. 5If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
  6. 6Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
  7. 7Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
