How can you help?
Help Book Village NPC by donating children's books for underprivileged learners to read & find joy in stories.
Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
We are a non-profit trying to help end the reading crisis in South Africa. Although our intiative is EdTech and we teach children to read online, we let learners sit and read books in our class while they wait to be connected to a tutor online. Through a survey last year we found out that majority of our learners' do not have ANY books at home and so we are hoping to receive enough books to give each learner one of their own, as well as have a few for our class. If you have any pre-loved children's books in good condition, our children would be extremely grateful for such a wonderful gift! It is also International Book Giving Day on the 14 February and so it would be amazing if we had enough books by then to hand out to learners. We are hoping for about 400 books per school. We have 4 schools that we work in at the moment. Please spread the word and help us reach our goal!
Helpful tips
Stay safe
- 1. Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
- 2. When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
- 3. Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
- 4. Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
- 5. If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
- 6. Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
- 7. Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
