Our little warriors fight against cancer

A touching story of a one-legged warrior who battled cancer will warm your heart

In 2019 we had a  little boy join our Home of Hope family. He arrived full of energy and excited to finally have a forever home. Upon arrival, he was seen as a healthy little boy with a big smile, two legs, two arms, and a heart of gold. As he was playing, we noticed that his knee was extremely swollen and disjointed and rushed him to the local clinic, where he was immediately transferred to the hospital for further medical tests. What was brought to our attention was heartbreaking, as he was diagnosed with cancer. This was extremely traumatic for him, as he did not have the cognitive ability to understand what this meant for him except that he had to be in the hospital for quite some time. We thought that the scare with our brave little boy was over as his knee was amputated and the cancer was removed, however, this was not the case, we have been in and out of the hospital since 2019 and he has had multiple surgeries on his lungs, legs and ears. Being so young and having to go through this trauma was something we would never want anyone to experience. Every time we took him to the hospital we had to pray before receiving feedback, petrified that this little boy's body would not be able to take much more. Being in hospital, missing school and missing his family was all the emotions and feelings that our brave boy was experiencing and now because of cancer he had lost his leg. Having two legs and now having one was a major adjustment. He could not understand why he had to lose his leg. With Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder comprehension of understanding is not easy and in many cases, it never happens. He is now in remission, and we are so blessed to watch him grow up. He is undeterred by the fact that he only has one prosthetic leg. We are so proud of his determination!
