More about World Speech Day South Africa

World Speech Day South Africa's mission is to empower youth to use their voices as instruments of change; by providing a platform for this purpose and by cultivating their confidence and capacity with skills in several developmental areas. World Speech Day South Africa evolved from an annual event where youth are encouraged to speak up and speak out about matters they care about; to a year round calendar of events which include connecting youth from schools and NPOs to youth in other countries. In April 2018, we launched the WSD ZA United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Book Club at the Tshwane Leadesrhip Foundation. We are now expanding it to Ratiepane and Makapanstad (and hope to extend our reach via ForGood). In 2019, we launched the WSD Future Ready Skills Development Program. This Program comprises workshops on Leadership, Social Cohesion, Communication, Entrepreneurship and Active Citizenship. While the Program is housed on the Udemy platform for the purposes of generating revenue to allow WSD SA to be self-sustainable; WSD SA is also committed to making a social impact and do so by awarding free access to these workshops to schools and NPOs in the form of vouchers. Our intention is to nurture youth to become active citizens, to strive towards contributing to the betterment of humanity and to hone in on their leadership skills. We actively promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals in all that we do. WSD SA is also the curator and custodian of WSD Women (led by Vino Pillay). WSD Women is the women's empowerment pillar of WSD Global and is the product of the efforts that were made to pivot during the COVID-19 lockdown viz. the WSD #GenerationEquality Podcast Series that was launched on the 8th of March 2020. We have since grown in that many other collaborations and initiatives have since emerged. Our first Anniversary was celebrated on the 8th of March when speakers throughout the world participated in our International Women's Day Event (co-ordinated by WSD Women and WSD Live in Singapore).
