More about TEARS Foundation

TEARS Foundation has been at the forefront of the South African response to GBV, Rape, Abuse & Sexual Assault for the past 10 years. Through our toll-free helpline, Help at your Fingertips (*134*7355#) has helped 107 024 victims & survivors over the last 12 months. The prompt activated service sends the caller details of their nearest facilities providing support to victims of rape and sexual assault. The “Help at your Fingertips” helpline is a cellphone-based service that uses USSD technology which makes it possible for people to use the helpline even if they don’t have data or airtime. It also does not matter what kind of cellphone they have; the service works on even the most basic phone. Our clients will receive an SMS with details on where to access help within their community, and important phone numbers they can contact. We provide speedy response and access to medical, counselling, and criminal justice system for victims of sexual violence in South Africa.
