OBJECTIVES: To undertake social welfare and humanitarian activities: These include, among others: • To feed and provide humanitarian services to the most vulnerable and needy when the need arises, be it in a crisis or non-crisis situation. • To support education by providing meals to needy learners at schools so as to improve their ability to attend school and to learn. • To provide financial aid and/or assistance to poor and indigent families. • To promote and encourage the development and empowerment of the poor and needy to be self-sufficient and self-empowered, thereby reducing poverty. • To provide primary health care education and awareness. • To provide bursaries and scholarships. • To provide boreholes in areas that are in dire need of water supply. To achieve this goal strategies have been initiated: 1. SCHOOL FEEDING INITIATIVE A few schools are being provided with meals to improve the ability of learners to attend school and to learn, in this way we support education at schools. 2. FOOD HAMPERS Needy families have been provided with grocery hampers to sustain themselves and their families. Proper evaluation is conducted before allocation is made. During the Covid 19 pandemic, there has been an influx of families that needed assistance. We also ensured that the duplication process was avoided, allowing all to be assisted. 3. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT We have initiated a programme where women from the rural areas of the South coast of KZN are involved in the sewing of Re-usable sanitary pads made of off cuts from fabric thereby empowering the women in the rural areas. 4. PRIMARY HEALTH CARE EDUCATION We have been providing health care education and awareness to schools on an ongoing basis. The provision of sanitary pads both disposable and re-usable have been distributed to poorer areas in the province. 5. HUMANITARIAN SERVICES We have been providing humanitarian services to the most vulnerable and needy where the need arose be it in a crisis or non-crisis situation. During the current Covid 19 pandemic we have provided relief be it food or health packs (which included sanitisers, soaps and masks) and we continue providing this. 6. WINTER WARMTH PROJECT During the cold winter months, we provide blankets and warm clothing to the needy. 7. BOREHOLE PROJECT
