MANDELA DAY

67 minutes is all it takes to put a smile on someone's face. Our Rainbow Nation, young and old, came together to make over 3300 sandwiches for those who need them most! Union of Jewish Women Johannesburg Mandela Day at the Norwood Mall on Sunday was a heartwarming event - an amazing turnout and incredible atmosphere. Donations of bread and spreads poured in enabling us to distribute sandwiches to our Soup kitchen in the Hillbrow Community Health Centre, our Alex feeding scheme, Beit Emanuel feeding scheme in Hillbrow, Hotel of Hope, the White Squatter Camps, Witkoppen Clinic, Patricia's home for abandoned children, St Lukes Church and jobless and hungry people at every corner. Absolute strangers shared a smile and a few words with those next to them whilst making their sandwiches. Students were able to earn their community hours: 21 sandwiches = 1 hour.
