DirectAxis Virtual Volunteering #spekkies4cheshire

Virtual Volunteers donated their time during Covid19, nurturing Spekboom plants in aid of much needed funds for vulnerable disabled adults at Turfhall Cheshire Home

We trained 20 DirectAxis Volunteers who in turn teamed up with 6 primary schools in the Western Cape, introducing the #spekkies4cheshire campaign. The objectives were to teach the learners, the propagation, and environmental qualities of the Spekboom plant. Also to collect recycled containers to grow their plants and donate to our residents who in turn would resell the plants for much needed funds. Sadly Covid19 put the activity on hold, but it did not deter our volunteers to continue growing their plants virtually. During the pandemic, the DirectAxis volunteers were awarded matched funding for their efforts, resulting in a new PA system, urgent items incl a medical bed, linen savers, and surgical gloves for the Turfhall Cheshire Home. Through matched funding we are hoping to acquire a generator to assist with power outages, to ensure sufficient lighting when attending to our vulnerable residents.
