More about The Homestead
The Homestead serves vulnerable, at-risk boys and girls who are living within dysfunctional family environments and troubled communities. Interventions are delivered to children at high risk of becoming street children, and to their families so that there will be improved living conditions for the child. We successfully reduce the number of children leaving home. The Homestead runs 6 Drop-in Centres in very poor and under-resourced Cape Town locations where family dysfunction and social ills are high. A Drop-in Centre is a community facility providing basic services to meet the emotional, physical & social development needs of vulnerable children. The following services apply: Provision of food School attendance support Assistance with personal hygiene Laundry services Guidance, counselling and psychosocial support Social skills & life skills Educational programmes Recreation activities Community services School holiday programmes Primary health care in collaboration with the local health clinic Reporting and referral of children to social workers or social service professionals Promotion of family preservation and reunification Prevention and Early intervention Homestead programmes also work with families to improve the living conditions of the child. We successfully reduce the number of children leaving home.
