Retina South Africa has been in exitance since 1980 when it was formed as the Retinitis Pigmentosa Society with the primary objective of finding a cure for inherited retinal diseases. Spurred on by the discovery that their children were also sufferers of these diseases, a group of patients determined that they would find ways to support those facing terrifying realization of gradual and inexorable sight loss and simultaneously seek a cure. That continues to be Retina SA's aim.
