Inspiring Educators

Inspiring Educators is a series of free public talks created and curated by Play Africa. These talks aim to provide a platform for educators to share practice, reflection, research and dialogue, with a particular focus on the education of children age 0-10.

GOALS FOR EDUCATORS Inspiring Educators talks are designed to be a maximum of 45-50 minutes, with 10-15 minutes for questions. Our goals: 1. HELP EDUCATORS BETTER PREPARE SOUTH AFRICAN CHILDREN FOR LEARNING IN THE 21ST CENTURY * Equip educators with innovative thinking and practice to nurture children as creative learners, critical thinkers and problem solvers * Expose educators to the changing nature of global economies and work in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), and how children's mindset can embrace creative, flexible learning over lifetimes. * Consider local knowledge and research relative to global trends. 2. INSPIRE EDUCATORS WITH NEW IDEAS AND RESOURCES * Provide a supportive, motivating environment to expose educators to new theoretical frameworks and practical applications * Give educators relevant, exciting examples they can apply immediately in their classrooms 3. BUILD A COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE OF EDUCATORS * Create a dynamic network of educators dedicated to excellence and professional growth. * Foster dialogue among educators, generating a mutually-supportive environment for exploration, reflection and discovery For South Africa's children to thrive in the 21st century, educators must empower them as creative, critical thinkers. Today's children must become flexible, lifelong learners, with everevolving skills to identify and solve problems with creative analysis and empathy. EDUCATORS AT THE FOREFRONT OF NEW THINKING Across South Africa, innovative educators are taking the lead in embracing new research-backed methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches, including to STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) and the creative arts. We seek to showcase the best of South Africa's inspiring educators who are committed to knowledge sharing for professional development. Together with educators as partners, we can strengthen networks, recognise leadership and showcase strong content and teaching methodologies.
