Elsie's Story.

Thank you to all our sponsors for the continued support. With your help we are able to support Elsie, a mother of 4, to keep feeding her family, while she is looking for employment opportunities.

During our door-to-door needs analysis, we met Elsie Brooks Sule, a mother of 4 from Cosmo City. She is currently unemployed and depends on her husband for support. He is also unemployed but repairs phones to provide for his family. Seeing that her husband’s earnings are not enough to support her family, Elsie has been looking for ways to help him so they can both be able to provide for their family. Upon assessing her situation, we found that Elsie and her family are struggling and in need of our help. We registered her as our beneficiary and invited her to attend the grocery outreach to receive her food parcel. She informed us that she is looking for ways to make money from home, so that she is still able to look after her kids because taking them to a nursery school would be too expensive. We learned that she was interested in baking and selling. Her reason for choosing baking is that she would be able to do it from home while still being actively involved in raising her kids. On one occasion, after receiving her grocery parcel, she was so grateful, she told us “If you had not come, I don’t know what my children were going to eat tonight because we don’t have food”. Touched by Elsie’s story, one of our volunteers offered to teach her how to bake in her free time. This is a wonderful opportunity for Elsie, she will gain skills that will enable her to provide for her family and be able to help her husband. Since then, Elsie has joined our Adult Empowerment programme. She attended the interview skills workshop and we created a CV for her. While she is still looking for a job and learning all about baking, Elsie will continue to receive a monthly food parcel from us as a registered grocery outreach beneficiary. None of this would have been possible without your donation/sponsorship. Your donations go a long way from helping a mother provide for her family to empowering her with new skills. Without your contributions, we would not be able to help Elsie and many others like her out there. We appreciate you, thank you for helping us change the atmosphere of Johannesburg!
