Gender Based Violence Film Festivals

Gender Based Violence & Femicide stats are rising each day. #dontbenext

The current Gender Based Violence stats are alarming and there seems to be no end to it even though there are specific dates and events such as 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, Women’s Month, Marches and a host of relative interventions. We need activism on a large scale for24/7 – 365 Days a year to be effective against this “Shadow Pandemic” that has no vaccine. Research has indicated that the power of film & video, the persuasive strength of audio-visual communication is highly effective in educating both victims and perpetrators to bring about change. Based on this the Foundation has conceptualized a bumper packed film festival that also includes workshops and talks by the South African Police Department (Talks on the GBV Reporting Protocol); The Department of Social Development (Talks on the New GBVF Bills, National Strategy Plan & GBVF Shelters) , The National Prosecuting Authority (Talks on Victims Rights and the Prosecution Procedures). For Continuity the following Competitions are included: 1) GBV Essay Competition; GBV You Tube Talk Show Competition. Part of the competition criteria is a focus on the GBVF International Hand Signal for Danger. See Picture on the Gallery Page. The thread throughout the Film Festival & the reason for inviting Govt. Departments is based on the GBVF National Strategy Plan that states that " The aim is to create Bold Leadership, STRENGTHENED ACCOUNTABILITY across Government & Society that responds to GBVF strategivally with clear messaging, adequate technical & Financial Resources.
