More about House of Hope Community Life Development
House of Hope was founded in June 2004. We started as a safe house for abandoned babies and has greatly expanded since as we became more and more aware of the great need in our community. 12 years later we are now an independent NPO and the program has grown and now consists of the following projects: Hope Babies: In this house abandoned babies 0-18 months are housed until they are adopted, placed in permanent foster care, or returned to the family under social worker supervision. The project serves as a place of safety for these children. It works in close relation with the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health. It is open 24/7 and serves the community in all crises situations. Hope Kids: We have three foster homes which provides homes for 18 children aged 6-18 years. We see ourselves as their forever f families. We aim to see them develop and become independent members of society. The Hope Life includes the following: • Pregnancy crisis center Assists woman with crisis pregnancies and offers them the needed support and counselling. Hope Life also offers pre- and post- abortion counselling. This stems from our heart is to prevent the occurrence of baby deaths and disabilities due to abandonment or attempted abortions. We have counsellors at our facilities from 10:00-16:00 on weekdays. • Melita’s: Rape crisis assistance and Rape crisis-training These workers work closely with the police in assisting woman as well as men who are victims of rape, sexual abuse, or violence. • NACOSA OVC Program This program aims to build bridges between OVC’s (orphans and vulnerable children) and their families and the relevant stakeholders in order to collectively turn the tie against HIV and TB. 10 care workers are each responsible for 50 OVC families. These care workers visit these families at home where they do interventions at household level. We’re also actively involved at three different schools where we educate and support with regard to matters such as HIV Prevention, sexual reproductive health, and gender norms and violence. The aim is to have 90% of our beneficiaries tested by the end of the year and to implement the 90-90-90 strategy. Hope Support: is a loving solution for families that are being torn apart by their loved one’s unacceptable behaviour. Hope Support is a support and empowerment group for parents or loved ones who find themselves in difficult situations because of substance abuse, irresponsible behaviour, rebellion, etc. Hope Support also provides support for addicts who were or still are addicted to illegal substances.
