My Story of Transformation
My Story - by Keanu Doubel
The first time I came into contact with Growing Champions was in 2012 when I was in grade 10. One of my friends Setchelle Webster encouraged me to come and join Growing Champions. When I got there I thought that Growing Champions was just a football club like all the other football clubs in the community. To my surprise it was more about personal development on how to become the person you want to be and letting us acknowledge that the only person that can bring change into your life is you. Growing Champions is actually a platform where leaders are built. Growing Champions changed me as a person. Joining the Growing Champions Club was the best decision I have ever made because since then my decision making has changed. I started to realise that I can become anything I want to become. Drugs and alcohol are over populated in Eldorado Park. The goals the youth in Eldorado Park set is to become the biggest gangster ever or to be the richest drug dealer. The youth only want fast money. Some have big dreams but do not achieve it because they give in to substances like drugs and alcohol. Growing champions helped me look at the bright side of things and not chase after fast money because every choice has a reward. Growing Champions is a faith based process. Faith is what keeps the organisation running. We put all our faith and trust in God to keep the organisation. God has really done a lot of wonders for Growing Champions. Like the time when I finished my grade 12, I thought I was going to be jobless. January 2015 was my first month at home and Growing Champions managed to get me into a course with IMSIMBI at Summit College. I had no money to get to the course everyday but because my full trust was in God, He made a way. While I was still at the 2 month course at the college I received a job offer at Moore Brothers and Associates. Growing Champions managed to get me a safe place to stay that is close to the company where I am employed. I have also now done and passed my Diploma in TAX RETURNS and I am now registered for FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING at the same University. Growing Champions teaches everyone the importance of serving. When I reached grade 11 in 2013 Growing Champions ran a 10k marathon to raise money for two boys who had cancer. Their dream was to meet the PSL Kaizer Chiefs football players. What encouraged me to run this race was the fact that we ran for a purpose. All the money GC managed to raise was donated to the two boys. Three weeks after the race the orphanage phoned us telling us that the boys would be meeting the PSL Kaizer Chiefs football players where the players train and we are invited. When the boys met the players my heart was full of joy and at that moment I realised that everything you do with love has a positive outcome. Ever since that day I love doing service where I can. I usually give service to the younger Growing Champions by giving them lessons in Maths literacy, Economic Management Science and Accounting. Life is all about choices. Growing champions is there to support you in whatever positive choice you make. Like my choice was to complete my school. I was supported until the very last day of my grade 12 year. Today I am employed and very grateful for everything that Growing Champions has done for me. It really means a lot to me. Most of all I thank God for leading my life. Many thanks too Samantha Toweel-Moore the founder of Growing Champions.
