Learning how to track from Patson

Patson is a professional and respected tracker that is patrolling our reserve..

Patson is an old friend of our Farm Owners. He was a tracking expert and game ranger at Makalali, admired by many for his expertise and knowledge of the bush. Currently he is working as a tracking instructor, and he will be staying in our reserve for two months with his students. What Patson and his team of students are doing is going on daily bush walks, looking for tracks, and seeing the wonderful animals and plants our farm hosts. Unfortunately, they often find snares, so they patrol the reserve as well. Sadly, aching is on the country's daily order. There are plenty of animal species victim to it. The populations of animals like rhinos (black and white), pangolins, big tusker elephants, etc. have been highly affected. However, on a happier note, our volunteers had the privilege of joining a bush walk with them last Sunday. Here they learned a lot about the different types of tracks (feathers, branches, footprints, or poop), and about trees. They shared with the group that it was really important, when living in the bush, what some of the trees and leaves can be used for -healing injuries, making fire, toilet paper.... The volunteers plan to join these bush walks, as it is also good for the students to learn how to deal with guests.
