I want to be a pilot

Sela wants to become a pilot so he can visit our international volunteers

Last week we welcomed 8 new children from Grade 7 to stay at DAKTARI. During this week they were immersed in all the activities our staff and volunteers carry out to take care of our wildlife, while attending their environmental education lessons and social talks. During one of the workshops the children sat in, they had to make a drawing about their dream job, and after dinner, present it to everyone at DAKTARI. After introducing themselves, they shared with the staff what their future job will be and the reason behind it. Everyone that was listening to them were very impressed by how clear they had their career paths and what they need to do in order to get there. Some of them want to become doctors -cardiologist, gynecologist, and surgeon- to save peoples lives, others want to become a police officer, teacher (so she can teach english to other kids), and housekeeper; two have decided they want to be pilots. And it was one of these pilots that captivated all of our hearts. Sela, an 11 year old, shared with us that his dream is to become a pilot. Among the reasons, he wants to “welcome volunteers at DAKTARI, and I want to travel with them. I will fly a plane to Brazil”, to visit our current Brazilian volunteers. In DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage we have at the core of our mission to educate, motivate, and inspire our children to pursue their dream career paths, while minding the importance of looking after our environment
