Happy ending story for this Bush Baby!

Community involvement is crucial to DAKTARI's work and shows the long-lasting impact that we make. Throughout the years we have been able to rescue many injured animals thanks to the local people. One great example of this is the story of Mabine and the bush baby.

Mabine came to spend a week at DAKTARI where he saw for the first time in his life our funny little bushbaby and loved to interact with it. Two months later, Mabine and his brother called Ian and Michèle our co-founder at 7pm, reaching out for help as they saw a very sick bushbaby in their village and they were scared it would die. Although they were sceptical about the reliability of this phone call, they just could not ignore it and decided to drive all the way to the village to see by themselves. When they arrived, they found these two worried little boys, walking around in the dark with a torch and a cage. There was indeed a very weak and scared bushbaby, in need of special care and attention. Ian and Michele ended up taking the bushbaby to the orphanage, where it was given lots of fluid and good food before being released two weeks later. Before they left, the two brothers made them promise to bring the cage back, just in case they would find another animal in need. This shows the fundamental mission of DAKTARI: educate and inspire children to value their environment and stimulate community projects. It is with a lot of pride and emotion that Ian and Michèle relate this heartwarming story to the DAKTARI family.
