Founded in 2011, Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa was built on a dream to provide communities with a safe space for kids to learn, to play, and to grow. Today, we reach hundreds of youth through daily programmes and activities that focus on their holistic development. This is all achieved through the continued support of partners and communities. These daily programmes are focused on Academics, IT & Career; Health and Life Skills; Sports, Recreation & Fitness; Arts & Culture; Character & Leadership. BGCSA is in a growth phase, where we are focused on serving more kids and families, but also on building an organization that is sustainable and can support our expansion. In line with our 2020 Strategic Plan, we have prioritized building capacity within the organization as critical to our long term success. We have grown from 10 staff members in 2015 to 62 currently, and will employ over 125 people by 2020. While we aim to offer a holistic programme offering to our members the key component of our impact on our young people is directly linked to our staff, who are the caring and interested adults that our kids are guided and inspired by. We currently have six clubs in operation around Gauteng in Pimville, Protea Glen, Bertrams, Alexandra, Vrededorp and Maraisburg which are currently serving a membership of 1797 kids across these six sites. Our seventh site will open later in 2019. We are a facility based programme. Our Clubs are open from 2-6pm Monday to Friday and occasionally on Saturdays for sports games or tutoring sessions. Our mission is to inspire and enable young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as healthy, responsible, and productive citizens. Our 2020 vision is to provide a world class Club Experience that ensures success is within reach of every kid who walks through our doors, with programmes and impact that make us the organization of choice for our community and beyond, allowing us to serve 5,000 children in 10 Clubs by 2020.
