Rough Diamonds Preschool...a diamond in the rough

Maiski was born to teach! Joining our UpliftED Teacher Training Programme in 2018, she was an obvious diamond in the rough---already sparkling. Nestled in the township of Olievenhoutbosch, Centurino, her centre, Rough Diamonds Early Learning Centre (what a coincidence!) was already a happy preschool where children were learning something daily. Maiski took to our training, wringing every drop of learning out of our curriculum. She enriched her preschool programme. She’d plan lessons for her Grade R’s outside, as the classroom space was so cramped. We popped in one day and they were baking ‘sun bread’ in little flower pots. Another day they were checking on the sprouting seeds they had planted in little cups. Revolution Church ran a donation drive to gather books, dress up costumes, stationery and some extra cleaning items for Rough Diamonds. Then FedGroup sponsored a major renovation, repainting the inside of each classroom, adding beautiful murals outside, AND building a brand new Grade R classroom! Maiski covered the tiling costs and bought a turf carpet. Her new classroom is spacious and beautiful. This year, she starts with room for each of her classes to operate well, room for her students to learn! Already an ambitious entrepreneur, Maiski has received help to realize her vision for Rough Diamonds sooner…and start dreaming new dreams.
